Privacy Policy

The Claim Letter is a free weekly email that lists open class-action settlements you may be eligible to claim. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to send you the newsletter, we never sell your data, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

1. Who we are

The Claim Letter is an independent, reader-supported publication. We are not a law firm, we do not provide legal advice, we are not a settlement administrator, and we are not a lawyer referral service. We publish factual information about publicly available class-action settlements and link directly to the official claim websites run by courts-appointed settlement administrators.

2. What we collect

  • Email address - required, to deliver the weekly newsletter.
  • First name (optional) - to personalize your greeting.
  • State (optional) - so we can prioritize settlements restricted to your state.
  • Delivery data - our email platform (MailerLite) records standard delivery events: whether an email was delivered, opened, or clicked. This is used to maintain list health and confirm the newsletter is reaching inboxes.

We do not collect payment information, Social Security numbers, or government IDs. Filing a class-action claim never happens on our website - you file directly on the official settlement administrator's site.

3. What we do with it

  • Send you the weekly newsletter and (only if you ask or a problem occurs) essential service emails about your subscription.
  • Personalize your greeting and order claims relevant to your state.
  • Track aggregate opens/clicks to keep the newsletter useful and out of spam folders.

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information. Ever. We do not share it with advertisers, data brokers, or law firms. The only processor is MailerLite (email delivery), which processes data on our instructions under its own privacy terms.

4. Legal bases (where required)

We send the newsletter based on your consent (you double-opt-in via a confirmation email) and, for existing subscribers, our legitimate interest in delivering the service you signed up for. You may withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.

5. Your choices

  • Unsubscribe: every issue contains a one-click unsubscribe link. We honor opt-outs promptly (within the CAN-SPAM window of 10 business days, in practice within 24 hours).
  • Access or deletion: email news@theclaimletter.com and we will tell you what we hold, correct it, or delete it.
  • Correction: reply to any issue to update your name or state.

6. How long we keep data

While you are subscribed, plus a short tail afterward for deliverability records. If you unsubscribe or ask us to delete, your data is removed from our active records; bounce/abuse records may be retained as required to keep email deliverable and lawful.

7. Cookies & analytics

The website itself uses no advertising cookies and no third-party ad trackers. Email opens are tracked in aggregate by MailerLite (standard for newsletters). If we ever add analytics, this section will be updated first.

8. Security

Data is stored with our email processor and in access-controlled systems. We collect so little that there is nothing sensitive to breach: no passwords, no payment data, no government IDs. If a breach affecting your data ever occurred, we would notify you directly.

9. Children

The Claim Letter is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor subscribed, contact us and we will remove the record.

10. Your California rights (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents may request to know what personal information we hold and request deletion. Because we do not sell personal information, there is nothing to opt out of. Requests: news@theclaimletter.com.

12. Not legal advice

Everything we publish - newsletter issues and this website - is general information about publicly available class-action settlements, not legal advice, and no attorney-client relationship is created by subscribing. We verify every claim against its official settlement site, but deadlines and terms can change; always confirm details on the official settlement website before filing. Filing a claim is always free - never pay anyone to file.
